Stepping it up for better Health
Participating in WalkWest is a fun way to support improved health outcomes for people living in Melbourne’s west, while also enjoying the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.
By walking, or running, 2, 5 or 10km, you’ll be helping those in our community who are impacted by poor health through raising funds to support:
- research into the health concerns affecting our community, including chronic diseases such as heart disease, kidney disease and Type 2 diabetes;
- patient care and support initiatives to assist patients with their recovery and get them home safe and well;
- improvements to hospital facilities including new equipment and upgraded furnishings;
- investment in our staff through scholarships and advanced training, to attract and retain the best staff for our hospitals.
The Western Health community is one of the fastest growing in Australia, with a population expected to surpass one million by 2021. It is a proud and passionate community, where our uniqueness is celebrated in over 150 different languages, and support is offered to those in need.
While our working class roots make us strong in spirit, at Western Health, we know that disadvantage and diversity are also two of the main roadblocks to accessing healthcare. As a result, our community experiences some of the highest levels of chronic disease in Australia, with higher than average repeat hospital admissions.
By participating in WalkWest, and by supporting the fundraising of friends and family, you will provide our hospitals with the financial resources to continue to provide the best care, the best research and the best training.
Together we can improve the health of the west.
