Getting there

Where is WalkWest located?

WalkWest commences and finishes at the WalkWest Village located in Footscray Park, Maribyrnong.

What time should I arrive?

The WalkWest Village will open at 8am on Sunday 22 March. Please join with us at the WalkWest Village for the pre-event aerobic warm up. Event times will be announced shortly.

Where can I park?

Parking is available at the following locations:

  • Maribyrnong Boulevard (off Farnsworth Avenue)
  • Henry Turner South Reserve Car Park (off Farnsworth Avenue)
  • Burndap Park Car Park (off Farnsworth Avenue)
Are there public transport options available?

The following public transport options are available.

Tram 82 stops on the corner of Geelong Road and Droop Street (Stop 59) and is a 10 minute walk from Footscray Park.

Bus 409 (Yarraville to Highpoint) and Bus 472 (Williamstown to Moonee Ponds) both stop on Farnsworth Avenue, opposite Doug Mill Reserve. From here it is a 5-minute walk to Footscray Park.

Bus 404 (Footscray to Moonee Ponds) stops at Footscray Park on Ballarat Road.

Where is the start line?

The event will start within the WalkWest Village located in Footscray Park, Maribyrnong.

Where can I leave my belongings?

We strongly urge you not to bring any valuables with you on the day, however if this cannot be avoided we recommend that you carry your valuables in your backpack or hip pack while you participate in the event.

You can however leave your belongings at the baggage marque located in the WalkWest Village. A ticket will be issued to you to collect your belongings at the end of the event. We take no responsibility for loss of items.

What happens if it rains?

The event will generally proceed if it is raining. However safety is our key priority. If the event is cancelled due to extreme weather you will be notified via SMS and/or email. As per our Terms and Conditions, registration fees are non-refundable.

What should I wear / bring?

Make sure you wear loose and comfortable clothing to allow for maximum movement, and comfortable and sturdy footwear.

We recommend that you only carry the following essentials – sunblock, hat, sunglasses and water bottle. You may wish to bring along a small backpack or a hip pack to carry your items.

Can I dress up on the day?

We would love for you to dress up on the day! Come as your favourite superhero, book character or celebrity. There will be a prize available on the day for the best dressed.


About the event

How long is the course?

There are three course options available on the day – the 2km, 5km or the 10km course. It is up to you whether you to choose to walk or run the course.

Will I be timed?

No. Unlike previous years, WalkWest will no longer be a timed event. We encourage you to use your own timing device such as a Fitbit or iPhone App.

Will I receive a medal for participating?

Yes. All participants will receive an exclusive WalkWest 2020 medal when they cross the finish line.

Can I change my preferred course after registration?

Yes. On the day please let staff know at the Pre-Registration Marquee which event you wish to change to and we will allocate your bib.

What happens if I cannot finish the course?

Please alert the closest volunteer on the course who will be able to assist you.

Can I push a pram around the course?

Yes. The course follows the public footpath around the Maribyrnong River which is accessible for prams. Please be mindful of other participants and the general public who will also be sharing the path.

Is the course wheelchair accessible?

Yes. The course follows the public footpath around the Maribyrnong River which is wheelchair friendly.

How fit do I need to be to participate?

The event is designed as a fun family-friendly event for people of all ages and abilities. You can set your own pace. If you are concerned about your general level of fitness, you can opt to undertake the 2km walk.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes dogs are welcome to participate at WalkWest. Please indicate on registration if you will be bringing your dog.

Although water dog stations will be available along the course, we encourage you to bring extra water and a small collapsible dog bowl.

Please ensure that your dog is on short lead at all times. Retractable leads are not recommended as they may cause injury to other participants.

Will you be selling merchandise on the day?

No. WalkWest 2020 t-shirts are only available through activating your fundraising page. When you raise a minimum of $30 you will be eligible to receive a complimentary WalkWest t-shirt. Your t-shirt will be available for pickup on the day of the event at the Pre-Registration marquee in the WalkWest Village.

Will I be photographed on the day?

Yes. As per the Terms & Conditions on registering you may be photographed on the day and photos used to promote future WalkWest events.

Will there be water stations available on course?

Yes. Water  will be available along the length of the course, however we recommended that you bring your own water bottle.

Western Health is committed to reducing the use of single-use plastics. We encourage you to bring your own refillable water container with you on the day. Compostable cups will be made available and are to be placed in the recycle bins as marked after use.

How are you ensuring a sustainable event?

Western Health is committed to best environmental practice and to being a leading organisation working towards environmental sustainability.

The Western Health Foundation is committed to reducing the use of single-use plastics at fundraising events.

  • Water refill stations will be available in the WalkWest Village and on-course, and participants are encouraged to bring their own refillable water containers.
  • Compostable cups will be available at water stations located on-course for those who did not bring their own water container. Participants are asked to place their used  cups in the recycle bins as marked.
  • No balloons are permitted at any outdoor events.
  • All vendors and WalkWest sponsors are asked to commit to minimising their use of single-use plastic

Walkwest Village

Will there be food at the event?

Yes. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the WalkWest Village.

What activities will be available on the day for my kids?

The WalkWest Village will have a host of family-friendly activities available including:

  • Face painting
  • Jumping castle
  • Sports demonstrations
  • Cultural dancing

Further details will be made available closer to the event day.

How do I get access to the VIP marquee?

The VIP Marquee is reserved to participants who raise over $500 towards WalkWest 2020.

What's included in the VIP marquee?

Guests in the WalkWest VIP Marquee will receive:

  • Priority queue at the registration marquee
  • Complimentary snacks and beverages
  • Access to VIP toilet and change room
